COMMISSIONER SILVER WANTS CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH AAU

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida – Newly appointed NBA commissioner Adam Silver has had his work cut out for him in recent weeks and will now focus some of his efforts on trying to rid the NBA of the "One and Done" culture that has recently plagued college basketball bringing negative connotation to the league. Among Silver's 2014 State of the Union Address during All-Star Weekend, he expressed his thoughts on what he wants to see happen moving forward to curve the "one and done" NCAA practice. He continues to mention strengthening relationships with America's youth programs such as AAU as a remedy. It is no secret that Silver has been adamant in lobbying for a change.

" Everywhere I go people dislike [the] so-called one and done," he said. "It's important to the NBA and important to basketball generally that there be strong college basketball. It's important to college basketball that there be strong youth basketball and strong AAU basketball. And I think we feel we have a responsibility at the NBA as the stewards of the game to ensure that the game is played the right way."

2014 AAU SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Wednesday, May 15th marked a special day for 10 lucky individuals at the AAU National Office in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Out of fifty qualified candidates, Internship Coordinator Jennifer Miles narrowed it down to 10. Those ten were then interviewed by President of the AAU, Henry Forrest at the National Office.
President Forrest would like to welcome all of the summer interns and hopes their summer will be full of excitement and a learning experience.

Our Internship Program provides on-the-job learning experiences, educational sessions, an opportunity to be mentored by AAU staff and the ability to learn more about the organization and industry itself. The AAU Internship Program is open to college students and recent college graduates.

2014 HIGH SCHOOL SULLIVAN AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

This year, the AAU is proud to present two $10,000 scholarships to Audrey Faulhaber and Nathan Sherfey. Along with these two grand prize winners, the AAU also gave away six $2,500 scholarships to Autumn Kramer, Mary Ann Santucci, Christina Soto, Brandon Marshall, Mason Rogers and Liam Fitzgerald.

Every year the High School Sullivan Award is presented to high school student-athletes who show outstanding athletic abilities, leadership skills, a diversity in their activities and service, sportsmanship and strength of character, not only in their sport, but in their community. This award is given annually to four female athletes and four male athletes that have participated in the AAU and is named after James E. Sullivan, a past President of the Amateur Athletic Union, and a pioneer in amateur sports. Based on the qualities of leadership, character and sportsmanship, the AAU High School Sullivan Award goes far beyond athletic accomplishment and honors those with leadership skills, strong character as evidenced by his and her lifestyle as a whole.

The two grand prize winners, Faulhaber and Sherfey, will be presented the 2014 AAU High School Sullivan Award in a ceremony during the AAU Wrestling Scholastic Duals on the weekend on June 28th.

WOOD BAT CHAMPIONSHIPS AND 9U, 10U GRAND NATIONALS PREVIEW

It's time for the first week of our summer baseball events! The inaugural Wood Bat Championships and the 9U and 10U AAU Baseball Grand Nationals are here!

The two tournaments will be kicked-off by the Opening Ceremonies and Parade of Champions June 15th at 8 PM. Teams should assemble by 7:00. Bring your state’s flag or team banner to show your team off! You can also choose to bring trading pins to be traded before the Opening Ceremonies (or during the week of the tournament).

Then, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex June 16-21, 53 teams will compete for the title in their respective tournament and division!

The NEW Wood Bat Championships will feature two divisions: A 14U and High School Divisions. Each team is guaranteed a 5-game minimum during the tournament. Limited to only 10 teams per division, this tournament is bound to be a battle of the best!

AAU SUMMER 2014 PREVIEW

It may be warm year-round in Florida, but the real summer is just heating up for the AAU.

Kicking off the summer events is the AAU Gymnastics Age Group Nationals! We're excited to welcome over 1,400 gymnasts from as far away as California ready to compete July 12-15 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Don't miss the Parade of Champions and Dance Party June 12th after the last session is over that day! 2014 GIRLS' JUNIOR VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 41st annual AAU Girls' Junior Volleyball National Championships are almost here! From June 16-24, teams from 44 states and 13 countries will participate in the largest volleyball tournament in the world to date, according to Guinness World Records. Awarded that title in 2012, this year's tournament will look to break that record, with 2,100 teams and almost 27,000 participants competing! Because of its size, this tournament will need TWO venues and 175 courts! Courts #1-18 will be at ESPN Wide World of Sports while the majority, courts #19-175, will be at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC).

GYMNASTICS AGE GROUP NATIONALS PREVIEW

The summer events have officially begun now that the AAU Gymnastics Age Group Nationals are here! From July 12-15, the ESPN Wide World of Sports will welcome 119 gymnastics clubs and over 1,450 gymnasts from as far away as California who are ready to compete for the title in their respective age group. Boys', Girls', Adults and Freestyle Gymnastics will compete over the weekend and look to take home the Gold!
