AAU BOYS' INTERSCHOLASTIC BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

The AAU Boys Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League in the Southern Pacific District comes to a close on its first season.

This fall was the first league season for Boys and it was a huge SUCCESS! The High School Boys Beach Teams participated in league play each Saturday in September and rounded out the season with a Playoff tournament on October 5, 2013 at the Anneberg Beach House.

There was excellent beach volleyball action and a great team atmosphere as the teams hit the sand each week. Check out pictures from the events this fall – Click Here.

The AAU Beach Volleyball program is looking to expand this event to more teams in the future and can't wait to see it grow!

NAPA VALLEY WARRIORS WIN ROCKLIN TOURNAMENT

10/8/2013 10:14:39 AM | Written by: Register Staff Originally posted on www.napavalleyregister.com

The Napa Valley Warriors, a seventh-grade boys' AAU basketball team associated with the Napa Valley Basketball Alliance, won their first tournament title in the Seventh Grade Boys White Division at the Xtreme Hoops "Game On" Tournament on Sept. 28 at Hardwood Palace in Rocklin.

Despite having only seven of the 11 boys on the roster and one of their two coaches available, the Warriors worked hard together to win all three games.

The Warriors played strong and fast to dominate the competition, winning 57-21 over the Carson Red Raiders, 49-16 over El Dorado Hills All Net, and 58-24 over Incline Basketball Club White.

The Warriors' roster is made up of players from private and public schools in Napa who all played together on a St. Apollinaris Catholic School CYO Division I team, and remains coached by Joe Donohoe and Stuart Moore and managed by Shawn Moss, all of whom are veteran coaches. The team will be contesting competitive travel tournaments this Winter season.

The Napa Valley Basketball Alliance is a non–profit youth development organization that forms local AAU member teams with local coaches; facilitates support of existing teams, programs, schools and leagues; and hosts skills clinics and camps in the Napa Valley for players to foster competitive player opportunities. The NVBA's Facebook page is at www.facebook.com/ NVBA1.

VOLLEYBALL'S ALLY DAVIS; A LIFESAVER

Originally posted by: Courtney Ratkowiak on www.mgoblue.com

Ashley Davis sat far from the rest of the crowd during Michigan's NCAA Tournament second-round match against Louisville last November. Her light pink, long–sleeved No. 6 Michigan jersey stuck out against the red of the Louisville fans and the maize-and-blue Michigan supporters. But as the TV cameras lingered on her for more than a few seconds, it was clear the waving, smiling girl belonged there.

For the real No. 6 on the Michigan volleyball team, freshman outside hitter Ally Davis, being able to look into the stands and see her older sister seemed normal but hardly felt like it.

The pink jersey was from the Wolverines' annual breast cancer awareness game six weeks before. Coincidentally, Ally had started in that match, her final start before quietly returning home to be the donor in a stem cell transplant to help her older sister fight her 13-year battle with cancer.

When the Wolverines recorded the final point against Louisville, another win in the books en route to last season's surprising NCAA Final Four run, Ashley and Ally greeted each other in person for the first time since the transplant.

Ashley handed Ally a roll of mint LifeSavers candy. "Thanks for saving my life," she cracked. Michigan volleyball and Ashley's battle with cancer became inextricably linked last year after Ally was identified mid–season as the donor for the treatment that could save Ashley's life. Nine months after the Louisville game and 10 months after Ashley and Ally underwent the stem cell transplant, Ashley is still in remission, with a success story even more improbable than the Wolverines' last season. "The game was awesome," Ashley said. "It was the most unusual situation that nobody thinks is ever going to happen and then it does. It was kind of like the underdog story. I feel like that's the story of our lives." In 2000, when she was 11, Ashley was diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma after doctors discovered a brain tumor.
