NEW AND IMPROVED MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Please note that our application looks a little different.  We now explain our membership programs in the first steps of the application process.  It will explain the differences between extended benefit memberships versus the regular memberships.

We want to ensure that our members have the necessary information they need to make an informed choice regarding their memberships and insurance coverage.
Due to insurance restrictions, the AAU will no longer be able to "upgrade" a regular membership to an extended benefit membership.

THIS KID COULD BE ONE OF THE BEST, EVER

11/12/2013 | Written by: Steve Hanlon

Originally posted www.nwitimes.com

GARY | Dana Evans, in one way, is your typical high school freshman. A little shy. Probably got lost trying to find the algebra classroom after leaving the history classroom. Traditional stuff.

The 5-foot-5 ninth-grader probably had to ask a senior what is better at the end of lunch, the peach strudel or the chocolate mousse.

This, though, is where the story strides off the common course.

Geno Auriemma knows her name.

Muffet McGraw knows who she is, too.

Without yet playing a single second of high school basketball, Evans has already been offered scholarships by Purdue, Michigan State and Cincinnati.

The long line outside the Cougars' gymnasium isn't just football light electricians, it's other college coaches trying to take a peek at this immense talent.

It's amazing what averaging 40 points a game as an eighth grader will do for your stock.

"I love Jordans," Evans said during the first week of practice. "The shoes."

JARIAH JOHNSON IS A GREAT STUDENT ATHLETE

11/12/2013 | Written by: Reggie Malz

Originally posted on www.examiner.com

Jariah Johnson is a senior at Frederick Douglass Academy II and plays basketball for the Wadleigh High School Tigers. She plays AAU basketball for the CAS Panthers.

Growing up in NYC, every day Jariah faces distractions. She says, "There's always peer pressure of trying to do the wrong thing. In school, there are kids that don't care about their education. They behave so badly in the classrooms and are really rowdy. To stay focused in school, I just worry about myself. I make sure I do the right thing, make sure I do well in school, and I just ignore the other kids that don't care about school at all." For Jariah, this has certainly paid off. Throughout her high school career she has received Scholar of the Week, she has always been an Honor Roll student, and she is currently ranked #1 in her class.

Her passion is basketball. She says, "practice makes perfect, so keep practicing your skills. You don't have to practice with your team only; you can practice on your own also." Growing up watching basketball on television she has been influenced the most by Michael Jordan. "It's just the way he played the game. I mean, he made it really competitive and fun. He made me want to play basketball when I was little. When I watched basketball with my mother and grandmother, I just loved watching him and only him. He's the G.O.A.T.," (which stands for Greatest of All Time.) said Jariah.

TOP TARGETS JONES AND OKAFOR TO COMMIT FRIDAY

11/13/2013 | Written by: Laura Keely
Originally Posted on NewsObserver.com

Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones, Duke's top two recruiting priorities, will announce their decision Friday at 4 p.m. EST at their respective high schools.

Okafor, the No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2014, is a 6-foot-10, 265-pound center from Chicago Whitney Young High. Jones, the No. 4 overall recruit and top point guard, stands 6-foot-1 and hails from Minnesota's Apple Valley High. Jones has been the only point guard Duke has targeted in the last two years.

The two, who became fast friends thanks to the AAU circuit and USA Basketball, have pledged to play together in college for years, calling themselves a package deal. There hasn't been such a deal with non-related recuits since Greg Oden and Mike Conley chose Ohio State together in 2006, but they were from the same high school. It is believed that Jones and Okafor would be the first long-distance package deal in college basketball history.

It's believed that Jones and Okafor are down to three schools: Kansas, Duke and Baylor. Duke has long been considered the frontrunner, but, like with most high profile recruitments, rumors and misinformation abound as to where each is actually leaning now (and remember, these are still teenage boys. They can change their mind). We'll all find out Friday at 3 p.m.
Okafor is expected to be in attendance tonight when Duke plays Kansas in Chicago's United Center.
