AAU STRENGTH SPORTS NAMES 2017 ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

The Amateur Athletic Union today released its list of AAU Strength Sports Academic All-Americans for the 2016-2017 school year. A dozen stand-out athletes from across the country, ages nine to 18, were selected from the four Strength Sports disciplines – powerlifting, weightlifting, Feats of Strength and combine. To qualify, athletes must have participated in AAU Strength Sports meets during the past year, and maintained a very high academic standard in school.

"Our Strength Sports Academic All-Americans represent not only the future of strength sports in America but also the future of our country," said Martin Drake, Chairman of AAU Strength Sports. "This year's list of honorees is exceptional and reads like a Who's Who of youth sports, including previous National Athletes of the Year, past AAU Junior Olympic Games Joel Ferrell Award winners, the recipient of the Louisiana High School Sports Ambassador Award, the youngest sponsored athlete in the fitness industry, multiple students of the year, Presidential Volunteer Service Award winners, and plenty of kids with 4.0 averages. We even have a young man who will be an Ivy League Division I athlete in the Fall."

The list includes multiple repeats Academic All-Americans, as well as new entries. Jets Barbell, the national championship weightlifting and powerlifting team based in Shreveport, LA, had seven of the 12 athletes. "The kids who made Academic All-American this year are not only top athletes, but also have made a difference in their communities," said John Crofton, Jets Barbell head coach and AAU Strength Sports Weightlifting Chairman. "Humility and caring for others counts. These kids are not only champions on the platform, they also stand out academically and as human beings."
"This is a wonderful program to recognize the very best of the best," Drake said. "We're proud of these kids and all they have accomplished."

AAU TRACK AND FIELD REACHES AGREEMENT WITH FLOSPORTS TO PROVIDE EXCLUSIVE LIVE COVERAGE OF AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will once again partner with FloSports this summer to provide live coverage for 13 AAU track and field events across the country on FloTrack.com. The partnership includes live coverage of the 51st annual AAU Junior Olympic Games from Ypsilanti, Mich. July 31-Aug. 5.

"I am very excited to be able to announce that we have renewed our partnership with FloTrack," said Charles Oliver, AAU Track and Field National Chair. "FloSports has been extremely supportive of our mission to promote the development of track and field. We are truly excited about the opportunity to bring the outstanding athletes of the AAU into the homes around the world."

The alignment marks the second consecutive year in which AAU track and field regional qualifying events will be streamed live and available for more than 60,000 AAU Track and Field athletes.

Elite athletes who have participated in the AAU Track and Field program include Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson.
