The WNBA will be hosting preseason action at ESPN Wide World of Sports during AAU Spring Fling II.

You will have the chance to see the WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx, Chicago Sky, Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury compete against each other as they prepare to tip-off the 2014 WNBA Season.

Tentative Schedule Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever on Friday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury Friday, May 9 at 8:30 p.m. East vs. West Runner-Up on Sunday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. East vs. West Championship on Sunday, May 11 at 1:00 a.m.

AAU ATHLETICS DISTRICT QUALIFIERS


AAU Athletics now has 14 District Qualifiers licensed! These events are the first step to qualifying for the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games. The top 16 finishers from each event will advance to their respective Regional Qualifier and be one step closer to competing in Des Moines, IA.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

The AAU is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Tackle Football Pre-Season National Kick-off taking place in Little Rock, AR from August 15th – 17th, 2014. This event is being hosted by former NFL receiver, Reggie Swinton who also co-hosted the 2013 TX/AR AAU All-star Games in Cowboy Stadium.

The entry fee of $200 per team is due no later than July 30th, 2014.

UNITED HOCKEY UNION JUNIOR NATIONALS RECAP

Last weekend, teams from three leagues: Northern States Junior Hockey League (NSJHL), Midwest Junior Hockey League (MWJHL), and the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) competed for the chance to be crowned the 2014 AAU-UHU National Champion! After a weekend of intense competition, the El Paso Rhinos (WSHL) took the gold with a 6-3 victory over the Idaho Jr. Steelheads!


In addition to the competition between the top two teams from each league, there was also a Best of the Rest competition between four all-star teams comprised of players whose teams did not make the championship bracket. The 2014 Best of the Rest Champion was the WSHL (1) over-20 squad with a 10-9 victory over WSHL (2), their under-20 counterparts.

AAU FROSH-SOPH NATIONAL DUALS RECAP

Last weekend, AAU Wrestling hosted the 2nd Annual Frosh-Soph National Duals in Colorado Springs, CO. This event held at the Douglas County Fairground & Event Center, featured freshmen and sophomore teams from across the country!

Iowa Black came in first place in the Gold Bracket, beating out Team Colorado Red! In the Silver Bracket, South Dakota Red took the win over South Dakota White.

The 2014 AAU Taekwondo National Championships arescheduled June 30th through July 5th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The event will take place at the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Broward County Convention Center.

KENNEDY HEHR: HARD WORK PAYS OFF

To Kennedy Hehr, sports are more than just a recreational activity to take part in after school. To Kennedy, being able to play a sport is a reason to keep fighting. A volleyball player from Fontana, Wisconsin, Hehr was severely injured in a car accident in January. On January 26th, Kennedy was riding home from Illinois after watching her volleyball club's 18U team play. It was snowing outside and they would later find out that the roads were bad. A driver coming from the opposite direction swerved over the yellow lines and changed Kennedy's life forever.

The car made impact on the drivers' side, toward the back of the car. Kennedy was riding on the passenger side in the backseat, but the impact was so forceful she sustained life-threatening injuries. The pain from her injuries was so excruciating that she remembers fading in and out of consciousness and telling her friends' parents that she didn't think she was going to make it to the hospital.

When she finally made it to the hospital, doctors told her that she was lucky to be alive. On the outside, she was completely fine, didn't have a scratch on her. Inside, that was not the case. She had punctured her intestine and severed her stomach completely in half as a result of the blunt force trauma upon impact. She underwent emergency surgery to repair the puncture to her intestine and staple her stomach together. The surgeon also had to add 22 staples externally, from the outside of her chest to just below her belly button. Upon awakening from the grueling surgery, she set a goal to return to the volleyball court in the JVA World Challenge, a competitive AAU Volleyball tournament in Texas that was just 67 days away. The doctors encouraged her to set goals but later told her they never believed she would be able to play volleyball again, let alone in that tournament.

She spent eleven days in the hospital and missed 30 days of school. She lost 22 pounds while recovering, but despite all of the setbacks and obstacles, she never lost sight of her goal to play in the JVA World Challenge. Although she had just joined her volleyball club, Club Fusion, everyone came together and supported her throughout her recovery. Her teammates created an eight foot long banner and put together a "Get Well Video" for her while she was in the hospital to wish her good luck and a healthy recovery.

When April 4th rolled around, Kennedy was in Texas with her teammates, ready to play. She recalls when her coach pulled her aside before their first game and told her she would be starting as the libero.

"I wasn't really ready for that happen," said Kennedy. "I was so excited to play, but I never really thought it would happen. It was crazy."

US YOUTH BASKETBALL HOSTS TWO TOURNAMENTS IN TEXAS

On May 17th and 18th, Duncanville, Texas will be home to TWO tournaments hosted by US Youth Basketball! One will be a Super Regional for both boys and girls' and the second will be for only girls'.

The Super Regional will welcome boys' from the 3rd through 12th grades and girls 8th through 12th grade. The entry fee is $325 per team, which will guarantee every team participating at least three games.

The deadline to register for the Super Regional is May 2nd! First and second place trophies will be awarded, along with medals for each age division champion and runner-up.

The second tournament will be the Southwestern District Championship for girls' in the 7th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades from DI, II, and III. The entry fee for this event is $350, due by May 2nd! This fee will guarantee each team a four game minimum and first and second place team trophies, along with individual medals.

ON THE RADAR HOOPS SUMMER JAM HEADED TO ATLANTA!

Get ready for the On the Radar Hoops Summer Jam, June 7th & 8th!

This exciting summer tournament will take place at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and will feature boys' from 3rd grade to 8th grade.

REGISTER TODAY FOR THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE TOURNAMENT!

The Massachusetts State Tournament will tip off at University of Massachusetts Lowell and Lowell Public Schools on May 9th through 11th. Competition will feature 6th grade boys' in divisions one, two and three.

Each team will play a three game minimum and will play in a pool play/ bracket play format. Cost to compete is $450 per team and the deadline to enter is April 25th. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the first and second place teams.

HAVE A BALL AT THE WESTSIDE TITANS ANNUAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT!

Westside Titans Boys' Basketball will host their Annual Invitational Tournament May 23rd through 25th in Port Allen, Louisiana at Port Allen High School. Boys' basketball teams' grades 6 through 9 are welcome to play.

The cost to enter is $200 per team and each team will play a three game minimum in a pool play/ bracket play format. Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place teams!

COME WRESTLE AT THE AAU WRESTLING CENTRAL FLORIDA OPEN # 1!

This great wrestling meet will take place on April 19th in Oviedo, Florida at Hagerty High School. Competition will feature round robin style bracketing.

Wrestlers will be assigned based on age divisions and weight. However, the number of entries will dictate the number of matches that will take place in each weight class.
